Sümeyye’s Adventure in Poland

Hello, I’m Sümeyye Atmaca. I have been continuing my volunteering project at the youth center named Wymiennikownia in Gdynia, Poland for about a year.

Let me tell you a little bit about what kind of place it is in the youth center. As the name suggests, this is a hobby center opened to serve young people. There are many areas, materials and various possibilities for users here. Users can come and spend time as they wish and use whatever they want easily.

Let me tell you a little about what we do here, and how we carry out activities like me. First of all, you should know that Wymiennkownia is full every day of the week and there is definitely at least one activity here. There are groups that carry out karate, dance and similar activities and regularly come to our youth center to study. In addition, we have activities such as yoga and salsation, which are regularly planned by Wymiennikownia and carried out by professional trainers. We regularly plan one day a week, another workshop every week, and we present these workshops to the users. Sometimes I plan my own workshop, sometimes I do the scheduled workshop in advance and help the participants during the workshop. We also organize 3-day workshops, which are spread over a relatively large period of time and are more challenging, during the weeks when the schools are on holiday. In summary, Wymiennikownia is a center that was established for young people to have a pleasant time, increase their productivity and socialize with young people like themselves, and it serves this purpose successfully.

Coming to the difficulties of this volunteering project, it is necessary to constantly produce and plan new activities. For this, it is necessary to follow the trends in social media, to plan the time and budget. But there is a convenience, of course. Since this is a place based on having a pleasant time and socializing, you do not have to worry about doing a professional job. As long as you do your best and have a good time with people, the project reaches its goal.

One thing I can’t go without mentioning is that there is an amazing community of volunteers in Gdynia. There are about 25 volunteers in total from different parts of the world and there is a great harmony and communication between the volunteers. Here you will meet, travel, have fun and have a good time. One of the most valuable things that volunteering will bring you and one of the most important elements that keep you here will definitely be the friendships you make here.

In short, Wymiennikownia is one of the most enjoyable, comfortable and at the same time busiest places to volunteer, and you will never regret the time you spend here.
