Hello everyone. My name is Sarp Açıl. I am 20 years old and in the sixth month of my Erasmus+ volunteering project in Spain. I want to share about my experience so far.
First of all, I want to say that I am very happy here. The place I am in is a town of Cordoba, but it is a very special place. All kinds of special days are celebrated in an amazing way and the people are very friendly.
When they learned that I was a foreigner when I first arrived, I received an incredible attention. When we went out, everyone was coming to meet us. Even though they didn’t speak English, they were trying to speak.
Thanks to this, I gained a very nice social environment and my adaptation process became much easier. Another part of the adaptation process was culture shock. Frankly, I can say that I had a little difficulty in human relations at first, because everyone here is very comfortable in every sense. This reflects very well on human relations, but it also turns into a disadvantage in business and service sectors. I must say that I am very happy about my volunteering work.
Our working environment is very nice. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. From the first moment we arrived, they helped us very well in working and adapting. For myself, I have to say that this job has added a lot to me. Working with different age groups and children with disabilities is a completely different experience for me.
I realized how wrong I was in my views on teaching. In June, the school-related part of my project ends and the summer school part begins. I must say that I am very excited about this.
I visited many cities in Spain. I think there are many more places I need to visit. I am amazed by what I have seen so far. This is my experience so far. I hope to see more and collect good memories.
Regards
Sarp AÇIL
